Anti waste
The best before date (BBE) is the Best Use Deadline used for non-perishable food products but whose taste or appearance are likely to be altered by time. The BBE is generally preceded by the mention "To consume preferably before .."
Unlike the case of DLC, exceeding the BBE does not entail risks for the health of the consumer but simply a risk of deterioration of the organoleptic qualities. The BBE is therefore freely set by the manufacturer, who can in particular determine it using sensory analysis tests.
A food product can be legally sold after its BBE, in this case see BBE exceeded.
The BBE mention is normally now replaced by the DDM (date of minimum durability).
